President - Lupus Foundation of Minnesota (LFM)

 

The Lupus Foundation of Minnesota (LFM), a Minneapolis based nonprofit charitable organization that serves constituents of Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota, seeks a qualified, experienced candidate for President.

Reporting to the board of directors, the President provides strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the Foundation's eight paid staff and numerous volunteers. LFM has an annual budget approaching $1M. Direct reports include VP-Client Programs and VP-Development.

We serve those affected by lupus, raise awareness and fund research in an ongoing effort to improve the lives of others. 

 

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership: In cooperation with the board of directors, provide a vision for the future. Implement the board-approved strategic plan. Lead the day-to-day operations of the staff, board members, volunteers and other constituents. Hire, supervise, and evaluate staff.

Fundraising: Secure funding for the mission and goals of LFM.

Community Relations: Cultivate positive and productive relationships in the community. Serve as an advocate for the mission and those affected by Lupus.

Program Direction: Direct all programs carried out by staff, volunteers and partners to assure outcomes consistent with the board's expectation for success, quality, and ethical standards. The president will provide strategic direction, executive support and tactical oversight in developing and implementing new technology initiatives. These new initiatives will include content and contact management systems, reporting systems, and other mission-critical applications as appropriate in a significantly web-based, technology-driven environment.

Marketing: Develop and execute integrated marketing programs.

 

RECOMMENDED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, and EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven leadership experience

  • Solid understanding of related IS technologies and web-based applications
  • Experience with various aspects of fund raising and development
  • Working familiarity with budgets, audits, financial reports

  • Professional confidence

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful applicant should have at least a bachelor's degree in a related field and significant related executive/leadership experience. Experience with nonprofits or related entities are helpful but not required.

Brain Injury Association

Position:  Resource Facilitator (Bi-Lingual Spanish, both verbal and written required)

Supervised by: Resource Facilitation Manager

Status:  Full Time

Salary: Based on Qualifications

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for brain injury information, resources and individual assistance through the implementation of Resource Facilitation providing effective community integration of people with brain injury
  • Implementation of Resource Facilitation including:
  • Provide on going follow up with program participants.
  • Document barriers, service gaps, and duplication of services experienced by persons with brain injury, families and professionals in the region.
  • Work collaboratively with hospitals to implement discharge/referral process and document outcome
  • Develop and evaluate educational information and resources pertinent to regional area.

Information & Resources

  • Provide information, resources, and individual assistance to persons calling 1-800 number.
  • Respond to requests for information and resources.
  • Supervise informational packet requests.
  • Refer inquiries to appropriate service providers as needed. 
  • Develop new service contacts/resources.
  • Assist with resource library upkeep/organization.

Individual Assistance

  • Provide individual assistance to survivors and family members.
  • Assist children and adults with brain injury to prepare for or to participate in educational/vocational rehabilitation program.
  • Support persons with brain injury in their quest to transition back into educational environment, competitive employment and community integration.

Community Education/Public Awareness/Advocacy

  • Increase awareness and understanding of brain injury by acting as a resource and providing training and information about technical assistance to families, survivors, professionals and the community at large.
  • Inform consumers about their rights; empower them to direct their own services and support systems; and make informed choices.
  • Build regional networks of people on issues related to brain injury.
  • Encourage intersystem (agency) communication and collaboration.
  • Identify and coordinate key advocates in the brain injury community to act as volunteers and advocates in legislative matters.
  • Attend State/County/Local informational meetings to speak for brain injury issues and assist with strategic plan development.
  • Provide Brain Injury education and awareness training for regional area.
  • Provide a proactive educational approach through hospitals and professionals to mentor a pro-active approach with consumer education of information, support and available resources.
  • Attend and support regional BICC.
  • Establish telephone relationship with Support Group leaders.

Outreach

  • Visit service sites to gather information and represent the Association.
  • Serve urban and rural areas within all ranges of socioeconomic factors, education and ethnicity.
  • Work with Multicultural Outreach Coordinator to identify underserved groups and provide follow up services to individuals of diverse populations.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Increase awareness of the Brain Injury Association’s web site as an informational resource.
  • Provide program information for Newsletter, conference and workshops, Roundtables, etc.
  • Responsible to track data according to program reporting requirements.
  • Maintain program records.
  • Responsible to attend all program and staff meetings to insure continuity between Association outreach staff, contract staff and other program staff.
  • Provide training, supervision and support for program volunteers. 
  • Assist with program development.
  • Other duties or projects may be assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or experience in health or related rehabilitation area (e.g., social work, nursing, special education, etc.) preferred. A combination of years of experience and education may be substituted depending on the relevance and level of responsibility of the work experience and other mitigating factors.
  • Currently a Certified Brain Injury Specialist or commitment to become so from one year of employment date.
  • Excellent computer/database skills.
  • At least 1 year experience working in a social service or non-profit setting with knowledge of case coordination and advocacy for persons with disabilities
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish language, both verbal and written required
  • An understanding of local/state human service delivery systems
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent record keeping and report writing abilities
  • Transportation required

The position requires a professional whose background is characterized by initiative and achievement. Candidates should possess the ability to network and collaborate with a variety of people. Candidates should have experience with disability services, strong people skills, a strong sense of professionalism, and a team approach to achieving individual supports for persons with brain injury.
