Resources for Individuals and Caregivers
United Cerebral Palsy of Minnesota offers a wide variety of resources for persons with cerebral palsy and their caregivers. Those resources include: 

 

Employee/Individuals Resources

  • Referral assistance.
  • Support groups for adults with the condition. 
  • Workshops on how to correctly use communication devices.
  • Minnesota Assistive Technology Loan Network (MATLN) for families, health professionals and special education teachers including:
    o Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices for loan.
    o A searchable database of devices for loan.
    o Introductory workshops for professionals, consumers, and parents.
    o A place where people can donate AAC equipment they no longer need. 
  • Lending library: Extensive list of books and manuals are available. Contact UCPM for a bibliography. 
  • Videos about cerebral palsy and related services including:

    o My Left Foot 
  • Basic information about:                  
    o Housing (general information, design, finance issues, housing options, etc.).
    o Products and services.
    o Sports and leisure (exercise, therapeutic hobbies, camps, adaptive sports, etc.).
    o Employment.
    o Transportation (accessibility information, etc.).
    o Health and wellness.
    o Travel information.
  • Zippity Zoo Day: An event where people who use augmentative communication equipment can interact at the Como Zoo.

 

Caregiver Resources

  • Information and referral assistance.
  • Parent support groups for parents and caregivers who are raising a child with a disability.
  • Workshops and public education provide:
    o Opportunities for parents and adults with disabilities to learn about current management of cerebral palsy.
    o Information on how to correctly use communication devices



 

Odds are you know Somebody

In 2003, Ruth Bachman (pictured with her granddaughter) was diagnosed with cancer.  Her hand and forearm were amputated that June.  "It is important to put a face on cancer and chronic illness.  I'm grateful to be that face for CHCM."
